BACKGROUND: Girls on the Run is a national youth development program that uses running to help 3rd-8th grade girls build confidence and other amazing attributes and skills through running. The season culminates in a 5K, which relies on a lot of community support! We need volunteers to help with all aspects of managing the event and to run with the girls.

SPECIAL INFO: CHRC member Allison Hauser is the Executive Director of Girls On the Run: NYC and Aliza Gazek is coaching a team this season! Aliza’s team members and many of the other girls in the program need buddies to help power them through the 5K and volunteers to set up the course and hand out snacks– this can be you!

Pre-5k Activities and day of registration opens at 8 am and the 5k begins at 9 am.

    BLAST FROM THE PAST

For those of you who have been around CHRC for a couple years, you’ll remember one of it’s very lovable Queens, Danielle and her (formerly) non-running, now husband, Adam.

In May of last year, Danielle and Adam moved back to Chicago with our best wishes, promises of lifelong running togetherness and a small token of appreciation and donation to their Honeymoon from Running Royalty.

This weekend, Adam and Danielle ran the Paris Marathon on their European honeymoon. The two of them ran circles around the Eiffel Tower as the crowds cheered from Crown Heights to Paris! This was Adam’s first full marathon and Danielle’s eighth. We cannot be prouder of them! Felicitations!!

  • New York Spring Races

    Week of March 27-April 2

    RACES, RACES, RACES

Running is great for so many reasons, but what about racing? Even if you’re not the competitive type or you don’t like the pressure of running at speed, racing (or running race events) has great benefits for every runner:

    • provides motivation,a sense of accomplishment and acknowledgement of your progress
    • allows you to take over the streets and tour areas you may not otherwise have a chance to
    • a way to support a cause that might be meaningful to you
    • connection to a community. Whether you’re running as part of #CHRC #RunningRoyalty or not, racing brings the running community together in an event that is joyous from start to finish.

This public sheet can help you find a goal race with #CHRC. Add your name if you’re joining us for any of the events.

  • Recovery Road

    Week of March 13 – March 19

Oh! How dreadful it is to be injured and on the bench during racing season or training season… or any time of the year.

Runners participate in this all-year sport where there never seems to be a good time to take a month or two off. It is difficult to remember: REST and RECOVERY are important components of your running lifestyle! We can only grow stronger as athletes if we take the time to recover in our training cycles and in our training week.

This can be tough!!! The CHRC Royal Council knows this very well. So you don’t have to become isolated from your running community while in recovery, our brilliant Safety Squire, Liz has set up:

    THE INJURY ROOM (FACEBOOK EVENT)

A place for us broken people of CHRC. Join if you’re currently injured, recovering from injury, or looking for ways to prevent injury that is all too likely too happen. Its purpose is mostly just a way for all of us with injuries to stay connected.

Check in for any resources and recommendations from your CHRC buddies as well. **Please note that CHRC strongly advises getting support of medical and athletic professionals when it comes to treating your ailments.**

    WINTER STREAKERS POWERING INTO SPRING

Starting in the winter of 2014, there has been an informal winter streak among some of the most avid CHRC runners. This winter, a handful of stalwart members set out to streak (run at least 1mile every day) for the longest CHRC challenge yet –the whole Winter Season.

That is, from the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2016 to the Spring Equinox on March 20, 2017.
