What’s With the Bananas?

While a banana suit might not seem like the most appealing running attire, we have a reputation for running and cheering in banana costumes. Like all great myths, there are several stories about the origin of this silly tradition. Some members say it started as a way to encourage running negative splits. Others say it started when one member showed up in costume to support another, and the idea just…stuck. No matter how it started, one thing remains certain: the banana is a symbol of CHRC pride, fun, and support on the race course and on the sidelines alike. While our members aren’t required to don banana suits to race or cheer, they’re welcome to do so if it brings them joy or helps them get negative splits. And it is a great way to stand out from the rest of the bunch.
